Sport Education

Sport Education is a subject offered to Year 7 and Year 8 students as a compulsory subject. Students elect from a range of sports to participate in for the duration of one term. Options include traditional summer and winter sports, as well as rowing, lawn bowls and tennis that utilize community facilities. The Sport Education program focuses on building the skills and tactics of the chosen sport through high levels of participation, as well as improving communication, teamwork and sportsmanship.

House Sport Carnivals

House sport competitions are held for Swimming (Headmaster's Cup), Athletics (Athletics Cup) and Cross Country (Cross Country Cup). Both the Swimming and Athletics Carnivals are whole school events with all students and staff attending. Participation in these events awards points towards the overall House Cup.

The competitive house system consists of four houses:

Churchill (Red)
Edinburgh (Green)
Strathmore (Blue)
Windsor (Gold)

Tutorial class and year level sport competitions are often held at lunchtimes.

Inter-School Sport

With over 1000 participants every year representing Balwyn High School in Boroondara Division sporting events, we have built a strong reputation for both high participation and performance.

The range of sports on offer as part of the SSV competition includes swimming, athletics, cross-country, cricket, baseball, softball, tennis, volleyball, golf, lawn bowls, badminton, Australian football, netball, football (soccer), basketball, hockey and table tennis. Other SSV affiliated events include squash, surf league, rugby, cheer leading, gymnastics, aerobics, mountain bike orienteering, equestrian, chess, rowing, road cycling and mountain biking and many more. Teams are dependent on interest.

Students are encouraged to sign up to try out for sports of their interest at the Sport Office.
